Cheers to the workin’ weekend

Ah working weekend, you were kind to me.

Working the weekend is usually a bit of a nightmare, as I’m on from 7am to 11pm. Sometimes I’m flat out for all that time and others, I’m able to fit in a few little bits – while attached to my phone and hitting the ‘refresh’ button every five seconds of course!

This weekend I was so lucky to have a relatively quiet one, there were things keeping me busy but there was also enough space to do two things that make me super happy: go for a run and see the elderly Harry-Dog. Hurrah!

Saturday was quite full-on and I was chained to my laptop all day, breaking only to go for a quick shop and crawl into bed after sending my final email bang on 11pm.

I even ate lunch at my laptop – check out my ‘easy to eat with one hand’ selection:


The quick shop involved a new health food find, which may end up a new obsession (credit card be warned!).

Wild Oats is slightly tucked off the main road but I was in need of some Green People shampoo and thought I’d check it out on the off chance they had some.

They had that and so much more! Raw Choc Pies, all my favourite snack bars, every Coyo variety – and a stash of beauty and home products.

As I went to pay, I spotted a fridge near the till with some locally made kombucha inside.


I’ve been wanting to try kombucha (I tasted a shot of it a few weeks ago) for ages and I was so chuffed to find ginger and rose flavours. They are so good, luckily 21DSD keeps me only drinking 230ml at a time so the bottles are lasting a little while.



I also picked up this gorgeous organic raw almond and chia butter from Primrose’s Kitchen. It’s super creamy and delicious.


We were also able to sneak in a quick walk before dinner, the weather had been raining all day but cleared up as soon as we walked out the door.



Gorgeous! Dinner was a new favourite, we made the salmon with olive and caper tapenade from the 21 Day Sugar Detox book.


Served with a tumble of greens, we had sugar snap peas, broccoli and asparagus and sweet potato. I can’t recommend this recipe enough!

Sunday started bright and early with an awesome 5k and hilly walk home. It was so hot and humid but the run felt really good.


It was my first run since injuring my hamstring so we kept it relatively flat and steady, it seemed fine – so relieved!

Of course, post-run banana pancakes were required.


James and I then hopped in the car and drove to my Dad’s house to use his Nespresso machine and internet. Oh, and see Harry-Dog too😉

Harry-Dog decided we needed to go out and play as soon as we arrived, so we headed straight to the pet shop to pick him up a new toy.


Trust Harry-Dog to pick up a bone as big as him! He took great pleasure in squeaking in loudly all the way through town, eliciting lots of laughs from passers-by.

We had a little picnic at the park, with James tucking into some sandwiches and Harry-Dog eating his fish in broth from the container.


Harry also enjoyed a few liver treats I picked up for him, he’s such a spoiled pup. It makes me so happy to see him having fun.


He was tired out after all the excitement so I had to carry him home, definitely a second workout for the day!

My lunch was pretty awful to be honest, I picked up a salad bowl and some turkey from M&S but the turkey was so dry and had a super strong flavour.


Covering it in chilli infused olive oil made it palatable, especially with handfuls of pistachios for dessert.

We made it home just in time to pop to the shop and grab some bits for dinner, which was cod, veggies, avocado and salad.



So much nicer than lunch!

  1. Besides all your meals lookng fabulous (as always), I am stll in complete disbelief of long yoru work hours are over the weekend. I mean I knew you were busy basically all day, but not 11pm. I give you major props for getting in a 5k the following morning.

    Aww, I’m so glad that Harry is having such a good time:)

    Your working hours never cease to amaze me. I swear, you must be Superwoman to get through all of that and then have the energy to run the next day.

    Touch-wood I haven’t had a single dud recipe or combination on Raw Till 4 – I think it’s because everything is relatively simple, and I adore the taste of most fruits anyway, so I’m doing quite well. I did find some gorgeous purple sweet potatoes today, and I’m very much looking forward to dinner as a result!

    Aww Harry-Dog looks so happy in those pics! I love the giant bone and the fact that he squeaked it all the way home… adorable!

    I’ve been itching to try different nut butters (I’ve only ever had peanut butter) but haven’t wanted to commit to buying a whole tub before I know if I like it or not. Luckily a local shop started carrying little sample packets for less than $2 each. I’m so excited to try them!

    • He’s a happy lad, I was just glad people found the squeaking funny haha!
      I have to say I’ve tried quite a few nut butters and almond and peanut are my favourites. Walnut and hazelnuts are fine but nothing compared to almond

  6. That nut butter sounds delish! I LOVE nut butter and would demolish this one out the jar I expect! I haven’t found any varieties so exciting near me sadly- just the Meridian almond butter:)

  7. That almond butter looks insanely good- I need that! I’ve never tried kombucha, I think this needs to be rectified!

  8. Those are some scary busy long days you put in! I used to love some of the nut butters from iHerb but we are definitely catching up here in the UK, I’ve seen a few new brands that sound amazing!

  9. Oh my word your working days are crazy! I have had a few days marking at midnight but by then my brain is mush and it is so hard to concentrate.
    That nut butter sounds delish- I am still working my way through the big almond butter tub.
    Also, you have such fabulous views on your runs- amazing.

    Sounds like a decent weekend. It would be so hard to do what you do and have to work that many hours even from time to time.

    I can’t say what the worst thing I’ve eaten recently is because I’m too scared to even try it. My sister made “dilly beans” which is canned green beans that have been pickled. I hate pickles and dill but she really wants me to try one. So when I do, that will be the worst thing I’ve eaten recently.
