WIAW: Green Day

I have a treat for you today. A massive, highly exciting WIAW treat. As regular readers will know, I’m one of the most boring eaters. I like the same things, over and over and I very rarely get tired of them.

Apples and nut butter with cacao nibs for breakfast, cod for dinner, soup for lunch – all staples that I’ve probably bored you to tears with every WIAW.

So it is a huge deal (and probably relief!) that this post contains none of those combinations.

This month, Jenn is hosting a party for all things green so I’ve been doing a little ‘green count’ on my posts. Now there’s nothing I like better than a new record so today..

Green count: 11 (pistachio macaroon, spinach, baby chard, peas, broad beans, cucumber, apple, spinach, cucumber, green pepper, avocado)

I’m also wearing a green top to the office today – does that count as number 12?

City of Bristol-20130320-01164I had to shower at the gym today as our boiler in the middle of being replaced. The helpful gas engineer was so kind as to leave us without hot water or heating (!) from 5pm last night. Fingers crossed it will be fixed today, we had to share hot water bottles with the hamster last night as the flat was so cold!

These are my eats from Sunday. I went to the gym for a speedy 30 minute session before I hot footed to the train station. No time for my usual herbal tea so I grabbed one at Starbucks to enjoy with my favourite bar of the moment…

Breakfast: Starbucks Hibiscus tea and Nakd Caffe Mocha bar

I was really impressed by the Starbucks tea, I’ve never had herbal tea from them before but it was delicious. And Nakd bars.. what can I say? Great to grab and go and this new flavour has my heart. Huge shout out to Maria for sending my a discount code too!

When I reached Bath I met mum and we walked to the Bertinet Bakery for some much-needed cake action. There were so many delicious treats on offer but I went with my favourite, a macaroon! It was so good.

Snack: Pistachio macaroon, black coffee

The coffee tasted great too, really fresh and delicious. We actually bought two macaroons each but only ate one as we were so busy chatting.

We walked round the shops for a few hours (mum bought me a pair of J Brands!!) before it was time to head to the train station.

Snack: Another black coffee

I picked up a coffee from the cafe on the platform to warm my hands as I waited for my train. I only usually drink one coffee a day so ended up only drinking half of this.

When I reached home I was super hungry so tucked into a ready-made Waitrose salad.

Lunch: Waitrose Love Life Roast Butternut Squash, Beetroot and Pomegranate salad with quinoa  and red rice, cucumber and a lemon dressingI’ve admired these for ages and it was fabulous! The quinoa and red rice tasted great and was surprisingly filling. I added cucumber slices on the side for extra crunch. After I drank about three herbal teas, James and I headed to the shops to grab our weekly haul. I bought us each a slice of cake from Better Food – coffee and walnut for me and cherry bakewell for him.City of Bristol-20130317-01158Snack: An organic apple and slice of gluten-free coffee and walnut cake from Better FoodThe cake was good – gluten-free and delicious – but nothing can replace my beloved Boston Tea Party coffee and walnut cake obsession. Something is going to have to though because they’ve stopped making it! Devastated doesn’t cover it, one of James’s band mates works there and I pleaded with him to bring it back but it is out of his hands apparently. After cake I did a few chores before getting hungry for dinner. Luckily, James was up for eating a little earlier than usual so I cracked on with prepping salads while my salmon grilled.IMG-20130317-01161Dinner: Grilled salmon, roasted green pepper, avocado, spinach, cucumber, tomato, olivesYum, yum! I absolutely loved this meal. The green peppers were roasted in the oven along with James’s chicken kiev so had a lovely garlic taste and crunch! We settled down to watch tv with some dessert. I decided I couldn’t go without my favourite nut butter and cacao nibs and used some probiotic chocolate for dipping. Killer combination!City of Bristol-20130317-01162Dessert: Pukka Tea, a ombar dipped in peanut butter and cacao nibs, sultana halva and a scoop of almond butter from the jar and five chocolate truffles (unpictured).

This was such a good day of eats! I feel like there probably was quite a bit of sugar and coffee but I balanced this with lots of salad and veggies, as well as heaps of water and herbal tea.

Happy WIAW!

I love snacky dessert plates like that- looks delish. And no worries about the code- if you like their facebook page they post offers on there quite a lot.:)

  8. Loving the green macaroon:) I tend to eat the same things on most days too, mostly out of convenience and the fact that I genuinely enjoy the things I eat. If it ain’t broke, why fix it?

    Happy Wednesday:)

  9. Lots of yummy eats! I love ombars, don’t think I have tried that one though. You just reminded me I need to restock cacao nibs!

What I’d enjoy trying more, however, is a bite of pistachio macaron! Love love love. That’s one of my flavors, second only to chocolate hazelnut.

Dipping chocolate in peanut butter is a great life joy, isn’t it? I’m a huge fan!
