… Probably won’t work for you.
Have you ever read a whole blog from start to finish?
Over the weekend, I did just that with mine. It might sound self-centred, boring or arrogant but I wanted to get a gauge on where I’ve been, where I am and where I’m going.
The experience taught me so much and reinforced how I’m feeling – I’m at my strongest mentally and physically. I do miss those abs and Body Combat classes sometimes, as much as nightly boxes of expensive truffles, though never enough to go back.
Anyway, as I looked back through, a theme that I’ve been thinking about lots but struggling to put into words emerged.
My diet and exercise?
This is what works for me at this moment in my life. It might not work tomorrow, or next week or year. My life is bespoke to me, my feelings and circumstances – some that change others that don’t.
On the cross trainer next to me? This speed, incline and resistance are numbers I’ve played with – not a challenge or my place in a race. They might change next time, for better or worse.
Looking at my lunch? I’ve learned to go with whatever I’m feeling. Sometimes its a burger, sushi or slab of cake, other times a salad or bag of popcorn. If I eat light, chances are I’ll be having a big meal this evening when I do feel hungry.
One meal does not equal my body – in the past or present.
My body inspirations are my Mum and sister, strong, capable, beautiful women who achieve everything they try, always exceeding their modest expectations (not mine, I always believe they’ll achieve the moon).
But I don’t eat or exercise like them, even though we share genes and a love of cake. When we were on holiday we all customised our activity and diet, as we do in normal life. There was no judgement, that’s how things are.
I was brought up with this mindset then lost it completely in a competitive haze of calories, pounds and deprivation.
Now I have it back. It might not stay like this forever, this is just what works for me at this moment in my life.
